Visibility Score is the headline metric on every domain in SurfacedBy. It is a 0 to 100 number that rolls Brand Coverage, AI Mentions, and cross-platform consistency into one value so you can tell at a glance whether a domain is doing well, holding steady, or slipping.

Range and interpretation

A score below 20 means AI platforms rarely cite your domain for the prompts you care about. A score in the 20 to 50 range is typical for a brand that has some presence in AI answers but is not consistently named. Scores above 50 indicate strong and repeated citations across multiple AI platforms. Scores above 75 are rare and usually indicate a category leader.

These bands are guidance, not hard thresholds. A healthy score depends on how competitive your category is and how many prompts you track. Use the trend line, not the absolute number, as your primary signal.

What moves the score up

  • More AI responses cite your domain (higher Brand Coverage).
  • More AI platforms cite you, not just one.
  • Citations appear on high-value Prompts (Prompts with high search volume or clear commercial intent).
  • The specific pages AI platforms link to match the topic of the Prompt, which signals strong on-page alignment.

What moves the score down

  • A previously cited Prompt stops citing you.
  • A single platform regresses while the others stay flat.
  • A competitor starts showing up where you used to.
  • Newly added Prompts do not cite your domain at all.

When the score updates

Visibility Score recalculates every time a scan completes. Both scopes flow into one composite read model: each (country, Prompt, platform) cell keeps its latest known value via last-write-wins on created_at. The Full Benchmark provides the baseline and Daily Monitoring overlays the cells it covers, so the score reflects the freshest reading per cell rather than the most recent scan in isolation. See Scans for the cadence on each tier.
