Zapier

Send SurfacedBy events into Zapier using outbound webhooks.

SurfacedBy does not have a Zapier app. You can still start Zaps from SurfacedBy events by pointing an outbound webhook at a Zapier webhook trigger.

Set it up

  1. In Zapier, create a Zap with the Webhooks by Zapier app and the Catch Hook trigger. Copy the webhook URL Zapier gives you.
  2. In SurfacedBy, go to Settings > Integrations > Webhooks, add an endpoint with that URL, and pick the events you want, for example scan.completed or alert.triggered. Save the signing secret somewhere safe; it is shown once.
  3. Open the endpoint's Details and click Send test event so Zapier receives a sample request. Test events carry "livemode": false; add a Zapier filter on livemode if later steps should ignore them. The sample data has the shape of the endpoint's first subscribed event, filled with example values, so subscribe the endpoint to the event you are mapping while you set up the Zap.
  4. Build the rest of the Zap from the payload fields documented in Webhook events. Event-specific fields are under data.

Things to know

  • A Catch Hook step does not verify the SurfacedBy signature, so anyone who learns the hook URL can send data into your Zap. Keep the URL private. Verification needs the raw request body and the X-SurfacedBy-Signature header (see Signatures); if you need it, receive the webhook on your own server, verify it there, and forward it to Zapier.
  • Deliveries can repeat after a retry or a replay. Deduplicate on the event id if a repeated step would cause a problem.
  • To pull data on a schedule rather than react to events, call the Data API from your own automation.
