Search Console and Analytics
Connect Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 to read classic search and AI-referred traffic next to your AI visibility.
Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 add context your checks cannot measure on their own. Search Console shows how your pages perform in classic Google search. Analytics shows the visits AI platforms send you and what those visitors do. Both connect per domain and appear on the domain's Overview.
Connecting them is optional. SurfacedBy measures AI visibility without them.
Who can connect
- Plan: Professional or Agency. On Starter and the trial, both cards show a locked preview.
- Role: Admin or higher. The domain's Integrations page, and connecting or disconnecting a Google account, require the Admin role.
Connecting
Open the domain in the dashboard and go to Utilities > Integrations, then choose Google Search Console or Google Analytics 4.
- Sign in with the Google account that has access to the property. If a Google account is already connected for another domain in the workspace, you can reuse it instead of signing in again.
- Search Console: SurfacedBy picks the property that matches the domain automatically. If the account has no property for the domain, the connection fails and says so.
- Analytics: choose the GA4 property for the domain from the list, then select Connect property.
- The first sync pulls the last 90 days of history. After that, data refreshes after each check, with a daily sync as a backstop. Search Console data runs about three days behind, because Google publishes it with that delay.
The panel shows the connected property, the Google account, and the last sync time.
Where the data appears
Both sources appear in the Connected data section of the domain's Overview.
Search Console Insights compares search and AI performance:
- Missing from AI - searches where you rank on Google but AI platforms do not cite you.
- Winning on AI - topics where AI platforms cite you but you do not rank on Google.
- AI surfaces - impressions by search surface type.
AI Impact (GA4) reports AI-referred visitors, their share of all GA4 sessions, the top AI platform, and, where your property reports them, revenue, engagement, and key events from AI visitors.
Connection status
| Status | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Connected | Syncing normally. | Nothing. |
| Sync paused | Repeated errors talking to Google. SurfacedBy keeps retrying and keeps showing the data already synced. | Nothing, unless it persists. |
| Access revoked | Access for the Google account was revoked or expired. | Select Reconnect. |
| Permissions changed | Google permissions changed for the connection. | Reconnect and approve every requested permission. |
| Connection broken | The stored credential could not be read. | Select Reconnect. |
Disconnecting
Select Disconnect on the panel. Disconnecting removes the synced data for the domain. If the same Google account also serves other domains in the workspace, you can disconnect only this domain or disconnect the account from every domain that uses it.
What neither source can see
- Google's AI answers draw on the same index as classic search, so Search Console does not separate every AI-driven impression from ordinary search.
- Analytics sees AI visits that arrive with an identifiable referrer. Some AI traffic arrives without one. For visits and crawler activity recorded on your own site, see Tracking.
