Getting Started
A first-week playbook for new SurfacedBy accounts.
This guide is for new accounts. The goal is to get you from "I just signed up" to "I have real data I can act on" within the first week.
Day 1: set up
Follow the Quickstart to add your primary domain, confirm competitors, and approve the starting Prompt set. Your first Full Benchmark runs in the background and finishes within a few minutes.
Pick a plan that covers the platforms you care about. Starter covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, which is enough for most early projects. If Claude or Google AI Mode visibility matters, Professional is the minimum tier.
Days 2 to 3: read the first numbers
When the first scan finishes, open the per-domain dashboard. Focus on three things:
- Headline trend - Visibility Score, Brand Coverage, and total AI Mentions on the Overview page. There is no history yet, so note the starting values.
- Per-platform breakdown - which AI platforms cite you strongly and which ignore you, on AI Visibility.
- Cited pages - which URLs on your domain AI platforms treat as authoritative, on the URLs tab inside Citations.
Do not act on this data yet. You need a second scan before any trend is meaningful.
Days 4 to 7: second scan and decisions
Daily Monitoring gives you a focused update each day; the next Full Benchmark lands on the cadence set by your plan. Once you have two Full Benchmarks to compare, you can start drawing real conclusions:
- Did Brand Coverage move? Up is good. Flat is expected in the first few weeks.
- Are the same pages being cited consistently, or is the list volatile? Consistency means AI platforms have settled on you as a source for those topics.
- Are competitors gaining on you on specific Prompts?
Pick one or two gaps to work on. Do not try to fix everything at once; the Full Benchmark loop runs on your plan's cadence, so it takes patience.
Ongoing
Set up alerts for Visibility Score and Brand Coverage changes from Settings -> Notifications so you do not have to check the dashboard every day. If you are on Professional or above, configure a webhook for alert.triggered from Settings -> Integrations to route changes into your team's notification tool of choice.
